Dr. Brent Clark has 27 years’ experience as an educator and has risen through the ranks as teacher, principal and superintendent to his present position as the executive director of the Illinois Association of School Administrators. Dr. Clark was hired as Executive Director of IASA by the IASA Board of Directors in November 2005 and heads up the statewide association that represents more than 1,750 active and retired school administrators standing up for over 2 million students. During his tenure at IASA, Dr. Clark has been instrumental in designing and implementing a post-doctoral leadership program for superintendents, creating a professional development department to train school administrators in effective instructional management, and leadership methodologies, creating a communications and public relations office to assist superintendents throughout Illinois with crisis communications and public message and developing an interactive relationship with legislative and government leaders. He also spearheaded IASA’s Vision 20/20 initiative to develop the first-ever road map for the future of public education in Illinois.
Dr. Clark serves or has served on many statewide Boards and Committees, including but not limited to serving on the Association of State Executives, Illinois School District Liquid Asset Fund, Illinois Energy Consortium, Streamlining Education Commission, Classrooms First Commission, Educational League of Illinois, Governor’s Task Force on Education Accountability, American Association of School Administrators Board of Directors, Horace Mann League, Belle-Scott Military Civilian Committee and the Midwest Regional Educational Laboratory Board. He also has financial management, energy development, and agricultural operations experience in the private sector.
Prior to serving as the IASA Executive Director, Dr. Clark served as the district superintendent at Belleville Twp HS #201 in Belleville, IL, Benton Community Consolidated School District in Benton, IL and at Thompsonville School District in Thompsonville, IL. Dr. Clark is also an adjunct professor at Southern Illinois University where he teaches graduate and doctoral level courses to future school administrators. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from ONU, and both his Masters of Science in Educational Administration and Ph.D. from SIU, where he graduated with honors. He is married to Kathy, also a school administrator and he has one daughter and one excellent dog.
